Leaders of the six countries that share the Mekong River gathered for the opening ceremony of the 6th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit yesterday at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi.

The first-ever Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Business Summit opened in Hanoi on March 30 as part of the sixth GMS Summit (GMS-6) and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit (CLV-10).

A report on last year’s imports and exports was released on March 22 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The report would provide accurate information on Vietnam’s trade to management agencies, policymakers and businesses. According to the report, Vietnam export value reached $200 billion last year.

Vietnamese farmers account for 70% of population. However, they only contribute 20% to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while these figures in developed countries are 40%. Therefore, Vietnam’s agriculture must apply technology to improve farmer’s productivity.

Sixty local firms and 10 Omani enterprises operating in various fields sought investment partnership at a seminar held in Hanoi on March 22 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam-Oman Investment (VOI) joint-venture.
