Finger joint is the wood based panel manufactured by assembling small pieces of natural wood by means of adhesive and pressing under adjusted temperature and pressure to create larger sized boards.
2. History and development
Finger joint became popular after 1970s. Europe is the region which has the highest finger joint volumes, followed by the Americas and Asia. In Asia, Japan is the biggest producer of finger joint, followed by South Korea and Indonesia.
3. Components of Finger joint
Finger joint is composed of natural wood and adhesives such as Urea Formaldehyde (UF), Phenol Formaldehyde (PF) or Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc).
Raw materials for the producing finger joint are mainly used from non-standard wood such as wood corn from small workshops, small diameter pieces of wood and some other utilitarian wood.
4. The manufacturing process of Finger joint
Finger joint are manufactured by assembling small pieces of wood that have been mortised with adhesive.
5. Advantage
Finger joint has many advantages of natural wood and can completely replace natural wood thanks to its mechanical durability, water resistance, bearing capacity and so on.
6. Application
Finger joint are commonly used in construction or shipbuilding.
It is also used for walling boards, ceiling panels and flat panels.
